Academic opportunities

Manly Village provides students with a challenging, supportive and carefully differentiated learning environment.

Classes balance academic rigour with wellbeing, collaboration and a growth mindset. Students are supported to take intellectual risks, pursue deeper understanding and develop the confidence and independence needed to thrive in a highly challenging learning environment.

Through our classes, we aim to develop confident, curious and responsible learners who achieve strong academic growth, contribute positively to their learning community and continue to access the broader opportunities available at our school.

Classroom Mathematics Lessons

All classroom mathematics lessons are highly differentiated, ensuring that all students are met at their point of need. Teachers build students' mathematical knowledge and skills through explicit teaching and regular feedback

Mathematics Extension Opportunities

Students in Years 3-6 have the opportunity to participate in rich mathematics lessons that will provide extension and challenge for all students. These include the Mathematics Explorer and Mathematics Olympiad Challenges.

Students who show high potential in mathematics in the early years of school are regularly provided with small group mathematics extension classes, aimed at further extending these students through their engagement with complex ideas and learning tasks.

Classroom English Lessons

Teachers differentiate all English lessons, making sure that students are provided an appropriate degree of challenge. An evidence based, explicit teaching model for reading and writing instruction ensures that all students are stretched to reach their potential

English Extension Opportunities

Students in Years 3-6 are provided with challenging learning opportunities, designed to strenthen students' communication and comprehension skills. Students are provided the opportunity for challenge through the Multicultural and Bear Pit Public Speaking Competitions, writing extension groups and writing challenges. Students in Years 5 and 6 are provided the opportunity to sharpen their communication and reasoning skills through school debating workshops and interschool debating competitions.

Classroom Science Lessons

Our school has two specialist science teachers, who work in classrooms specifically set up for enagaging, hands on science lessons.

Science Extension Opportunities

Our science teachers are experts in ensuring they challenge students who show particular skill or knowledge in science. Students are encouraged to engage in rich learning opportunities, including through programs such as our Green Beans and Green Agents Sustainability Programs and our annual Science Week events.
